Endodontic Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Is there even such a thing as a “gentle” root canal?

Root canals have such a negative reputation because people associate them with pain. In reality, the pain is not caused by the root canal; it is caused by the infected tooth. A root canal actually relieves severe tooth pain, and generous numbing during the procedure ensures you won’t feel a thing.

When the nerve inside a tooth becomes infected or exposed to the oral environment, it can hurt a lot. A root canal, also called endodontic therapy, is the procedure that removes the sore nerve from the tooth. After endodontic treatment, your tooth won’t hurt anymore.

Even if you aren’t experiencing any pain, a root canal could still save your tooth. Letting an infection rage on could cause damage to your jaw and other teeth.

Our in-House Endodontist

Most dental offices refer their patients to an outside endodontist for treatment. But that’s not the case here at Trinity Family Dental. We have a specialist on staff!

Our in-house endodontist, Dr. Leah Ocampo, is loved for her gentle touch. She puts patients right at ease and will make sure you are comfortable before beginning the procedure.

An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in treating the internal structures of teeth. Endodontic procedures start out by creating an opening through the infected tooth to relieve pressure. Your tooth and surrounding oral structures should be quite numb, at this point.

Next, our endodontist will clean the tooth chamber all the way through the roots, removing the damaged nerve. Once the tooth is cleansed of the infection, it’s sterilized and lined with a special filling. Afterward, it’s sealed off and then capped with a dental crown.
